Frequently Asked Questions

What are SENG Community Groups or SCG's?
Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) Community Groups are a unique opportunity for gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) individuals to connect with peers in a supportive space created by trained facilitators. SCGs allow gifted people to talk about the joys and challenges of the gifted experience, which are often left undiscussed. Topics include sensitivity, intensity, navigating social interactions, education and career concerns, dual-diagnosis, parenting gifted children, and more! See individual group descriptions for details.
Who are these groups for?
Whether you recently learned about or are exploring your giftedness, have been in the gifted community for years, are raising gifted children, or love a gifted person, you are welcome here!
Introductory groups are intended for those who are newer to SCG groups and want a comfortable place to begin. All other groups are open to general audiences of all levels, unless otherwise specified.
If you don’t see a group here that interests you, you can send us an e-mail requesting that we consider creating a new group. You can also check the SENG website for new SCGs, which are posted monthly.
How many people are in each group?
Depending on the group, registration is capped at 10-12 participants to ensure adequate virtual “space” and speaking time for all participants.
Groups may be cancelled if fewer than six people enroll for a specific session. We will notify you via your registration e-mail if that is the case.
Who leads SENG Community Groups?
All official SCGs must be led by SENG-certified facilitators.
Groups listed on this page are officially sanctioned by SENG and hosted by me (Emmaly Perks, M.Ed.) and my co-facilitator, Erin Krellwitz, PhD. We are both SENG-trained facilitators, experienced coaches, and have lived experience, advanced education, and additional training in giftedness.
When do groups meet? For how long? When do they start?
Groups typically meet virtually, once-a-week, for 75 minutes. They usually run for six weeks—though some may run for seven (typically this occurs due to an “off” week where a session falls on a holiday).
New groups start monthly and fill quickly (months in advance!) so sign up now if you’d like a spot!
Is there a cost? Are there scholarships available?
Groups require significant investment on the part of trained facilitators and attendees—including sharing their time, expertise, and resources—so there is an associated cost to the groups.
Typically, the cost per person is $200/per 6-week session. Limited numbers of reduced-cost scholarship spots exist for those who demonstrate financial need. Please note on the registration form if you believe you qualify for this opportunity.
Are there books or associated materials for the groups?
For most groups, we will suggest relevant books and associated readings, but they are optional to purchase and/or read. The exception are groups where we have designated an “anchor” book that we will reference as part of the group focus. In that case, we will specifically ask that you obtain a copy of the book from the library or purchase a copy.
For all resources, we will provide links to read/purchase the materials in advance of the group meeting.
