Highly Sensitive Person Scale- Revised

The Highly Sensitive Person Scale-Revised (HSP-R)

Heightened environmental sensitivity is commonly reported by many, but not all, gifted and highly intelligent individuals.

Sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) is a naturally occurring temperament trait, with some individuals being more responsive than others to both negative and positive sensory, emotional, and environmental inputs.

SPS has been linked to a variety of psychological, physiological, and genetic factors and can be measured using the Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) Scale—Revised (HSP-R).

Your Scores

Overall Score:

Interpretation:

An average score of greater than 5 indicates a tendency towards high sensitivity. However, individual scores may vary depending on gender, age, cultural background and other characteristics. Importantly, the score does not represent a precise indication or diagnosis but shows the likely position along a continuum of sensitivity.

Subscales

Research suggests that there are six different core aspects of sensitivity that are measured with six subscales in the HSP-R. The subscale scores below provide an understanding of how each of these core aspects of sensitivity contribute to an individual’s sensitivity.

  • Overstimulation:
  • Sensitivity to Positive Experiences:
  • Social Sensitivity:
  • Depth of Processing:
  • Emotional Reactivity:
